Road rage leads to fatal stabbing in Turlock

A 49-year-old Turlock man is dead after he was stabbed during a road rage incident, Turlock police said.

According to TPD, around 10:30 p.m. Friday, officers were called to the 2400 block of West Monte Vista Avenue in response to a reported stabbing.

According to TPD, officers arrived and found Enrique Gomez, of Turlock, on the ground.

Officers, along with Turlock Fire and Patterson District Ambulance, began administering first aid, but Gomez died.

TPD detectives took over the investigation and determined the incident was the result of a brief verbal altercation related to road rage at a nearby apartment complex.

According to police, the confrontation then turned physical, resulting in Gomez being stabbed.

TPD says through witness statements and evidence collected, investigators quickly identified the vehicle and person involved.

Police used license plate reading technology and worked with Modesto police to find 28-year-old Ahmad Abweny of Modesto just hours after the incident.

According to police, Abweny was booked into the Stanislaus Public Safety Center on a murder charge.
