Minnesotans prepare for election season: early voting and more

It’s pretty easy to vote in Minnesota. You can vote by mail and early voting by mail or in person.

“Election season has begun and Minnesotans are clearly excited to make their voices heard,” he said Steve Simon, Minnesota Secretary of State.

“There is still plenty of time to research the candidates and issues that will appear on the November 5 ballot – and our website mnvotes.gov is here to help. At mnvotes.gov, voters can register, request a mail-in ballot, view their sample ballot, find their polling place and more.”

In the first six days, the state’s election officials sent out 431,502 absentee and absentee ballots. That’s about three times as many as in 2016, when 150,488 mail-in ballots were mailed at this point in the election season.

The pace is slower than in the 2020 presidential election year, when there was a lot of interest in mail-in voting during the pandemic. During the first week of early voting in 2020, 1,246,810 ballots were mailed.

In Minnesota there are three options to choose from.

By post
You can request an email vote by going to mnvotes.gov/absentee. There are approximately 150,000 Minnesotans who live in “mail-in counties,” and if you are in one of these counties, you will automatically receive your ballot in the mail as long as you are registered to vote.

Worried your ballot won’t be counted? You can track your ballot at mnvotes.gov/trackmyballot.

Ballots must be received by local election officials by 8:00 p.m. on November 5, Election Day.

EARLY IN PERSON
You can vote early at your local elections office during business hours through Election Day, November 5th.

There are also some special times for early voting this year:

  • Saturday, October 25th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • Open until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29th
  • Saturday, November 2nd from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • Sunday, November 3rd from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m
  • Open until 5 p.m. Monday, November 4th

In person on election day
You can also vote in person on Election Day. To find out where to vote, visit mnvotes.gov/pollfinder. The polling stations are open until 8:00 p.m. And as long as you’re in line by 8 p.m., you can vote.

In Minnesota, you can register to vote at a polling place.
