Lee’s Summit Police Department is introducing a new mobile command post during Oktoberfest

LEE’S SUMMIT, Missouri (KCTV) – Hundreds of people made their way to Lee’s Summit for the annual Oktoberfest on Saturday. Safety is always a top priority for law enforcement, but this year the Lee’s Summit Police Department is taking their safety efforts to the next level.

The department unveiled its new mobile command post Saturday, a large van full of laptops, cameras and monitors.

Lee’s Summit Sgt, Chris Depue, said the department has tried different vehicles in the past, but the new van has been on the department’s wish list for years.

Depue said the van will provide greater security, especially during large gatherings and searches.

“For us, it’s about commitment to safety,” said Sgt. Depue. “It allows us to focus information, consume information and ensure we are doing our best work.”

Depue has been with the Lee’s Summit Police Department for 34 years and said the new technology is some of the best he’s ever seen.

Lee’s Summit Oktoberfest is a three-day event from September 27th to 29th. Over 100,000 people are expected at the festival.
