captain Jim Leavelle reported in from Baffin Bay and said, “The fishing is as good as it was in late spring this year. We’ve had a little weather to contend with this past week, but we’re still catching them well.” When Leavelle says “catching them,” he’s referring to speckled trout.

According to the guide the bite was really good in the topwater flat over the grass. He even catches fish deep in the sand, again over grassy areas. The water temperature in the bay has dropped about 10 degrees and with another front or two the fishing should only get better.

captain Lou Austin down in Port Isabel said: “We don’t have many people fishing and the bay is full of fish. The speckled trout and redfish were fished regularly in the Intracoastal Canal near Three Islands. The best way to catch these.” The fish is fished freely with just one shot into the middle of the Intracoastal jetty, and redfish are also caught on the jetties and at the end of the Brownsville Canal. The state waters and the Community Artificial fishery Reef find an excellent catch for red snapper.
