Everton Football Club finally seems to be on the right track this season.

The Toffees started the season with four consecutive defeats and looked unfocused, but towards the end of September they found some form and are now unbeaten in their last three games – albeit with just one win.

Everton now face another relegation candidate in Ipswich Town on Saturday morning.

The Toffees are a +200 underdog on the three-way money line at the time of writing.

The first few weeks of any season are always a little unsettled in any sport, but one of the most surprising aspects of Everton’s early struggles was that their defense was leaking like a sieve.

The Toffees were in the thick of a relegation battle for most of the 2023/24 season, but their defensive acumen was their saving grace. Everton were a stubborn, determined unit.

It abandoned this structure in the first month of this campaign, but recently it has become much better.

Everton held Leicester, Crystal Palace and Newcastle to a total of two goals at 3.7 expected goals, with much of that coming from the 2.1 xG the Magpies scored in a nil-nil defeat.

But even that needs some context, as Newcastle saved a penalty in this competition, which accounted for a large part of their xG performance.

And it must be noted that Ipswich Town is not Newcastle. Ipswich is almost the opposite of Everton.

The Tractor Boys are not a strong defensive team – they could end up being the weakest team in the Premier League – but they have some attacking strengths.

They are trying to overcome their problems and will hope they can do so at home against an Everton side who have struggled to stay in the Premier League for the last three seasons

That should play into Everton’s hands as the Toffees are a dangerous counter-attacking side and will come into their own with the opportunity to play in this Ipswich back line.

The bet: Everton (+200, DraftKings)
