J&K Minister Satish Sharma stops relief column for accident victims

A minister from Jammu and Kashmir won public praise after he stopped his escort to personally help two road accident victims in Srinagar.

Minister Satish Sharma, son of former MP Madan Lal Sharma, was on his way to Srinagar International Airport on Friday evening when he saw a man and his son injured in a road accident near Bakshi Stadium.

The minister stopped his column at the scene of the accident and ensured that the injured were taken to a hospital in his official vehicle.

Eyewitnesses said Sharma stopped his car and personally helped the injured while arranging for their transport to a nearby hospital.

The minister later told reporters that it was his duty to help injured civilians and that the vehicle(s) assigned to him were for human service.

“As soon as a priest helps the injured, other people volunteer to help. Doctors told me that the injured were being treated well,” said Sharma.

Sharma fought the assembly elections as an independent from Chhamb Assembly constituency in Jammu district and defeated former deputy chief minister and senior Congress leader Tara Chand.

Omar Abdullah assigned portfolios to his Council of Ministers on Friday. Sharma has been assigned the portfolios of Food Supply and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science and Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports and ARI Training.
