Pilot from Glen Rock, New Jersey identified as victim of Savannah plane crash

A North Jersey man has been identified as the pilot who died in a plane that crashed in Savannah on Sunday evening, according to police.

According to FlightAware, Boris Yusupov of Glen Rock flew from Miami Executive Airport at 6:16 p.m. and crashed in downtown Savannah just before 10 p.m. on Oct. 13.

Another passenger was on the plane with Yusupov, but his identity has not yet been released, although the person managed to escape with minor injuries.

The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the crash. A preliminary report containing factual information from the initial phase of the investigation is expected within 30 days of the accident, and a final report containing contributing factors to the accident is expected in 12 to 24 months.

The aircraft was a 1964 CESSNA 336 and was co-owned by Jorge Marti of Miami, who sold the aircraft in a Facebook group of Cessna Skymaster fans for $85,000.

Brian Leftwich, a Savannah-based aircraft mechanic and owner of another CESSNA aircraft, believes the engine running out of fuel could be the cause of the crash.

A GoFundMe was organized to support the pilot’s family. The fundraiser organizer said Yusupov was a “devoted husband and loving father of four young children” and said he was “an exceptionally experienced pilot who flew around the world and shared his passion for aviation with everyone he met.” met”.

The funds will be used to help the family cover funeral costs and other support during these difficult times. As of Friday afternoon, the GoFundMe had raised over $11,000.
