“Vampire Prankster” by Scare Tactics explains a friend’s reaction

Every week, Scaremongering Host Flip brings a collection of new horrors to the USA Network. In the rebooted series from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, nominators lure friends and family into a terrifying, hilarious trap of cinematic proportions.

Here’s how to watch

In the series’ third episode, “Host of Horrors,” one of the three pranks is what Flip calls a “true classic”: a vampire story.

But what could be so scary about selling a property? (That is, beyond the dust.)

At least that’s where nominator Ashley Herd told her friend Megan they were going when she gave her the post Scaremongering Candidate.

A vampire estate sale begins Scaremongering

“Luckily she knows I have unusual ideas, so it didn’t raise any suspicions,” Ashley said USA Insider via an email interview. “When we got to the driveway, she noticed there was no sign out front that said “Estate Sale.” I told her it was because it was a luxury property and they didn’t want the general public coming in and making it too crowded. Luckily, the long, winding driveway and huge mansion made it believable!”

As part of the prank, Ashley and Megan roll up to a massive mansion, where they’re told that the owner – whose estate sale is a mix of creepy mummies and a particularly fragile urn – wants to give them a gift for being so generous with their time. They are presented with fancy gowns and non-disclosure agreements that they must sign before they can proceed. Megan hesitates (understandably!) as the mood gets stranger, but Ashley plays her role perfectly and encourages her friend to stay until the finale.

As the prank was planned right in front of her and the tension mounted, Ashley couldn’t help but think, “How can I stop myself from breaking character?” She anxiously waited for the shoe to drop.

“‘When is the prank going to happen?'” she kept asking herself. “‘And I hope the prank doesn’t end with Megan hating me!’ My heart was beating so fast!”

Finally, Ashley and Megan “met” their host, Quincy, and the results were hilarious.

“I knew Megan was going into a room full of vampires, but as she ran out of the house, another vampire jumped out. I had no idea this was happening and I could have heard Megan’s screams three states away. Ashley said.

Luckily, Megan had a good sense of humor about the whole ordeal.

“That was one of the funniest things we’ve done in our 20-year friendship!” Ashley said, noting that even though she knew what was going on all along, she was “terrified” by the whole situation.

Ashley would do it again in a heartbeat and even has another victim in mind: “My friend Eliza from tennis – because she wouldn’t suspect a thing and would be hilarious.”
