Liam Payne took hallucinogenic drugs before falling to his death: report

New Delhi:

British pop star and former One Direction member Liam Payne took powerful hallucinogenic drugs before falling to his death from a hotel in Argentina on October 16, a report says. Payne, 31, was found dead after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires.

Police said Mr Payne consumed a dangerous substance called “Cristal”, which is known to cause extreme highs and lows in users and often leads to aggressive behavior. Test results confirming this on the narcotics and medications found in his room are awaited.

He may have been under the influence of several substances at the time of his fall, according to reports. Emergency services were called to the hotel after staff frantically described him as “an aggressive man who was overcome by drugs and alcohol”. The police statement to the AP continued that he “jumped” from the balcony of his hotel room.

When officers entered Mr Payne’s hotel suite they found a chaotic scene with broken items and various drugs strewn about. The substances found included packets of clonazepam, a central nervous system depressant, as well as energy supplements and over-the-counter medications.

Forensic teams also recovered a whiskey bottle, a lighter and a mobile phone from the yard where his body was found. Investigators noted that the lack of defensive injuries suggested he may have been in a state of semi-consciousness or total unconsciousness when he fell.

As the New York Post reported, during an appearance on “The Diary of a CEO” podcast in 2021, Mr. Payne said: “I was worried about how deep my bottom would reach. Where is the low point for me? And you would never do that.” I’m very good at hiding it. Nobody would have ever seen it.

Mr Payne had previously been to rehab several times and had also expressed suicidal thoughts throughout his career. Despite claims that he was sober, sources suggest that he struggled with a serious drug addiction until his death. The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing.

As the investigation continues, fans gathered outside the hotel to pay tribute to Payne, leaving flowers and candles in his memory. His former bandmates expressed their sadness over his death, emphasized their cherished memories of him and requested privacy in their grief.
