Dog fatally shot after attacking officer in Lauderhill, police say; Officer treated for hand injury – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

LAUDERHILL, FL. (WSVN) – A dog was shot after it attacked and injured a police officer in a Lauderhill neighborhood, prompting the officer to open fire, officials said.

Lauderhill police and firefighters responded to the 4800 block of Northwest 18th Court, directly across from Lauderhill 6-12 School, around 9:20 p.m. Friday.

According to the criminal police, the investigating officers arrived at a house and met the dog there.

Investigators said the dog attacked one of the officers, who fired his weapon at the animal.

The dog died at the scene of the accident.

The officer was treated by firefighters for minor abrasions to his hand.

7News cameras captured a heavy police presence near the home in question just after 11:30 p.m

Crime scene investigators cordoned off several blocks as they continued their investigation.
