Georgetown Co. official accused of sexual misconduct

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an officer after he had sexual relations with an inmate.

Detention center officer Peter Sawyer is facing charges of sexual misconduct and misconduct in office, according to spokesman Jason Lesley.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the state Department of Law Enforcement investigated the incident.

The affidavit states that Sawyer had the inmate perform a sexual act on him during a visit to her cell on September 11th.

He was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center and transferred to a regional detention center where he awaits a bond hearing.

Sawyer has been removed from office, Sheriff Carter Weaver said.
