Signs of November’s general election are the work of the local print shop owner

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The almost non-stop whirring of printers and the endless orders coming in online are signs that election season is in full swing for JC Media.

The Northwest Side printer has been busy lately helping political candidates get their names on the street.

“Well over 100,000,” said owner Jesse Castoreno, noting how many campaign signs his shop has printed recently. “(Voters) see the (candidate’s) name over and over again. I mean, it’s important for them to go out and vote.”

Castoreno opened the store four years ago on Alamo Downs Parkway, near Loop 410 and Culebra Road.

After a long career in advertising, he decided to start his own business.

Castoreno said he was able to build a loyal customer base through the contacts he made in his previous career.

His business is now one of the leading campaign sign printing companies in the state.

“We print for all of Texas,” he said. “Dallas, Houston, you know? I did a lot in Austin for Travis County.”

As busy as he has been lately, Castoreno said there has been a significant drop in business this election season compared to previous years.

He said that’s likely because of the large number of uncontested races in Bexar County this time, and those candidates don’t necessarily need campaign signs.

However, Castoreno said next May’s elections would be a different story. He said he has already started receiving orders for signs for some of those races.

While printing the political posters is his job, Castoreno said he won’t talk politics.

“I try to stay right in the middle. I leave politics to the politicians,” he said.

When there is no election, JC Media prints other types of signs, banners, backdrops and even clothing such as t-shirts and hats.
