Montague County commissioners approved a request from Interim District Attorney Katie Boggeman to use Senate Bill 22 funds to fund a part-time position to assist in filing and entering cases in the 97th District Attorney’s Office.
The court was in regular session Monday when Boggeman filed her motion and took the opportunity to introduce her new staff, which included investigators Wes Wallace and Todd Lewis, Brandi Shipman, office manager and victim assistance coordinator, and Jackie Welsh, also a coordinator for victim support.
Boggeman was named interim prosecutor on Aug. 1 after District Attorney Casey Hall accepted a temporary suspension in an Aug. 9 removal motion hearing attached to an indictment on two theft complaints against Hall related to the use of federal grant funds.
The civil deposition hearing is still pending a jury trial, while the preliminary hearing in the criminal case will take place on October 31. Boggeman, who defeated Hall in the March primary and is unopposed in the general election and is expected to take office in January 1, 2025.
The interim prosecutor told the court that they had taken on quite a task across the street and asked for a part-time position solely responsible for filing and electronic filing.
