“The Great British Baking Show” Season 15, Episode 4 Recap: “Caramel Week”

Oh dear, it’s caramel week The Great British Baking Showand that’s always a delicate situation that can break in the blink of an eye or, even worse, turn into a sticky mess. The last time we saw Caramel Week was Season 12 (Collection 9) when it showed up, not in Week 4, but Week 7with the top five of the season, the episode just before the quarterfinals. The contestants had a lot of challenges to overcome (mainly due to the pandemic schedule; it was August), and I noticed at the time that caramel week was usually reserved for the crème-de-la-crème* and was very happy to see the show and at least try to keep them as a future challenge.

Unfortunately, that was before National Theme Weeks. Since this change, week 4 has suddenly become the pickiest ingredient of pantry week. last season, it was chocolate weekwhich was a disaster. Well, it’s caramel, the only other truly miserable thing to work with when you’re out in a tent. It might not seem like such a big deal; There is only a four-week difference between Week 4 and Week 7. But there is a steep curve between what the top nine can handle in the first four weeks and what the top five can handle after two months of competition.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at which of our bakers can crack the caramel code and which end up with burnt sugar at the bottom of a pan.
