The Santa Maria River brush fire is estimated to be burning 80 hectares and is now 100% contained

UPDATE (11:36 p.m.) – A brush fire in the Santa Maria riverbed burned 80 acres and is now 100% contained, according to an update from the fire department.

CAL FIRE SLO said in its latest update that the acreage was reduced to 80 acres due to better mapping.

The cause is still being investigated.

UPDATE (7:58 p.m.) – According to an update provided by CAL FIRE SLO, the fire has burned approximately 100 acres and is now 60% contained.

The cause is still being investigated.

UPDATE (5:25 p.m.) – CAL FIRE SLO reports the fire has burned 90 acres and there is no containment.

No structures are currently at risk.

(4:58 p.m.) – Firefighters are responding to a brush fire along the Santa Maria River.

The fire was reported on the east side of the Highway 101 bridge just before 4:30 p.m.

Emergency services from several authorities are on the way to the source of the fire.

The fire does not appear to be impacting traffic on Highway 101 at this time.
