With 136 “meeting points” throughout the state of Ohio, The fear factor – an online haunted house directory – has named Ohio the most haunted state in the country.

Halloween is fast approaching, so check out some of The Scare Factor’s highest-rated haunted experiences across Ohio. Click on each title for more information.

Sept. 13 – Nov. 2 — Akron Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory (1300 Triplet Blvd.)

Opened in 1974, the Akron Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory has become one of the longest-running haunted house experiences in Akron, Ohio.

According to his websiteThe experience offers participants the opportunity to walk through the schoolhouse’s blood-stained hallways and hear haunting stories about the resident librarian, Miss Alma, the deformed caretaker, Karl, and others.

The Akron Haunted Schoolhouse is open every Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight and Sundays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. through November 2nd, with additional hours from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on October 31st.

Sept. 13 – Nov. 2 — Face your fears. Hotel of Terror (1291 Cold Springs Road)

Straight out of a horror movie set, the Face Your Fears Hotel of Terror is nestled among the many rows of cornfields in Springfield, Ohio.

According to the event websiteParticipants can walk through the abandoned hotel, “which has been ‘abandoned since 1940’.”

The Hotel des Terrors is open every Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Sept. 13 – Nov. 2 — Haunted house in Wells Township (101 Market St.)

According to the Wells Township Haunted House websitethe experience – located just a 40-minute drive outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in Brilliant, Ohio – includes over 10,000 square feet of scary movies, including monsters like the Wolf Man, Sparky the Clown, the Krimson Killer and more.

The Wells Township Haunted House is open every Friday and Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m. during the regular season, which ends October 26th. Limited, lights-out tours will be available November 1-2 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Sept. 19 – Nov. 2 — Dead Acres Haunted Hoochie (13861 E. Broad St.)

Originally opened in 1990, Dead Acres Haunted Hoochie has been providing visitors with immersive experiences for over 30 years.

According to his websiteThe experience offers participants a “full sensory assault,” complete with activities like catching a hayride full of screaming guests and shooting hecklers with a paintball gun.

The Dead Acres Haunted Hoochie Experience is open every Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to midnight and Fridays and Saturdays from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. through November 2nd.

Sept. 21 – Nov. 2 — Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse (155 W. 3rd St.)

Located in Perrysville, Ohio, the Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse says it offers over 30 minutes of fright across three floors website.

According to the school building websiteThe building was originally built in 1924 and later sat vacant for years, during which there were numerous rumors of strange noises and ghost sightings before the Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse officially opened in 2016.

The Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse is open every Friday and Saturday, except November 1st, from 7pm to 11pm and will be open on October 27th from 7pm to 11pm for the Heroes Night experience as part of the Ashland County Shop with a “Be Open Cop” fundraiser.

Sept. 27 – Oct. 27 — Distracted haunted house (1234 Main St.)

The Distracted Haunted House – located in Bowling Green, Ohio – includes a variety of haunted attractions, according to the haunted house websitefeatures “Fear Living Nightmares” – a haunted experience featuring “creatures of the night” – and “Original Fear” – which takes participants through a continuous haunted experience with different themed rooms.

Any immersive experience, depending on the haunted house websiteincludes access to the “Recovery Zone” – a tented area outside the haunted house that can be used to relax after leaving the haunted house – and the “Vamp Cam” – an inflatable photo booth that includes free vampire fangs and capes.

According to the haunted house websiteThis year includes the new “s*Skip the Line” pass, which reduces the regular price of all “VIP Group Timed Tickets” – for groups of 12 to 36 people – to just $18 per ticket.

The Distracted Haunted House is open every Friday and Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Sundays from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. until October 27th.

Sept. 27 – Nov. 2 — Blood prison (100 Reformatoriumstrasse)

Just over an hour’s drive outside of Columbus, Blood Prison offers visitors the opportunity to walk through the grounds of the Ohio State Reformatory – a historic prison in Mansfield, Ohio, most famously used as a backdrop for Frank Darabont’s 1994 film Shawshank “Redemption” is known – for a spooky prison experience.

According to Blood Prison websiteThe haunted experience will feature scary actors dressed as twisted inmates and deformed guards. The experience also includes the option for Touch Pass, optionally included with the purchase of a $35 general admission ticket, which allows actors to physically interact with attendees as they walk through the prison.

The Blood Prison experience is open every Friday and Saturday from 7pm to midnight and Sundays from 7pm to 10pm until November 2nd, with additional hours from 7pm to 11pm on October 31st.
