Danvers police arrest a teenager for allegedly assaulting a disabled person

The arrest came after residents called for action at a recent select committee meeting.

Danvers police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with an incident last Saturday in which a group of juveniles allegedly attacked a disabled man in Plains Park.

Danvers police applied for an arrest warrant for the teen Friday in connection with the Oct. 12 attack, according to a statement. Officers arrested the teen at 1:30 p.m

The teenager is charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and intimidation due to a disability, and assault on a person with a mental disability.

The Danvers Police Department, in coordination with the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, continues to investigate the incident.

According to the police, no further details can be released at this time as these are juveniles.

The arrest came following a heated select committee meeting on Tuesday in which the victim, Chris Anderson, known as “Ducky,” pleaded with the board.

“I was scared to death of these kids,” he told the board. “It breaks my heart every day and I can’t sleep at night. It is difficult. Can you please do more for me?”

Others at the meeting called for police action to take action against the “crooks” who have been wreaking havoc on residents and businesses in downtown Danvers for years.

Residents spoke of unruly teenagers weaving through traffic, whistling at them, trespassing and giving them the middle finger.

What happened to Anderson was the final straw.

“These kids can’t do what they do to people,” select board member Maureen Bernard said at Tuesday’s meeting. “We have to take control.”
