Russian forces have reportedly executed a wounded Ukrainian soldier in the Bakhmut district of Donetsk Oblast. The story prompted the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office to open an investigation into the incident.

It is believed that the soldier was injured in battle and later captured by enemy troops. Prosecutors allege the unarmed soldier was lying on the ground when Russian troops fired at him.

The execution reportedly took place on the morning of September 6 near the “phenol factory” in the occupied village of New York.

This barbaric act represents a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and, according to the public prosecutor’s office, is classified as a serious international crime
