EXETER, Neb. (KSNB) – One person is dead in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in Fillmore County.

The Fillmore County Sheriff said the accident, reported just after 7:40 a.m., occurred on Highway 6 about three miles east of Exeter.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound black Mazda driven by a boy from Friend crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by an 83-year-old woman from Fairmont.

The sheriff’s office said the Mazda driver was killed on impact. The woman was taken by ambulance to Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend, where she was in stable condition.

The name of the Mazda driver has not been released pending notification of family.

Investigators believe the Mazda driver may have been using an electronic device at the time of the crash. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and drugs or alcohol are not suspected at this time.

Highway 6 was closed for approximately two and a half hours.
