Local media company La Nacion reported that officers were called to Hotel Casa Sur after a manager reported an “aggressive male” who may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

TMZ also reported that witnesses saw Payne moving erratically around the hotel in the hours before the tragic incident and claimed to have seen him smash a laptop before he was taken to his hotel room.

The 31-year-old One Direction singer died instantly as a result of multiple injuries sustained in his fall that resulted in “internal and external bleeding,” preliminary autopsy results showed.

The autopsy report revealed that Payne may have been unconscious when he fell to his death.
