K-dramas and Spanish soaps are fueling the rise of foreign language content in the US

American audiences’ interest in foreign language content has grown steadily in recent years. Between the first quarter of 2022 and the third quarter of 2024, demand share for foreign language programming increased from 12.8% to 17% of total U.S. TV demand, according to Parrot Analytics’ Demand360. A significant portion of this growth can be attributed to international content available on U.S. streaming platforms, particularly the growing selection of Korean shows on Netflix.

Korean and Spanish are the top two foreign languages in the US television landscape, followed by Japanese – a language that has firmly established its global presence in recent decades.
