Shaun of the Dead: 20th Anniversary Edition

Directed by Edgar Wright, the first chapter of the Cornetto trilogy was a huge success when it was released. Combining Wright’s signature style of fast-paced directing, which he had honed in the TV series Spaced, with the chemistry of actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, Shaun of the Dead was a breath of fresh air at the time. The anniversary edition of the film comes in a sleek steelbook cover that pays homage to the classic EC Comics covers from the ’50s, while the interior features a delicious selection of Cornetto Ice Cream prints. There is a bit of red on it though. As with other 4K Blu-ray releases, you also get a version of the film on a standard Blu-ray and a digital streaming code, and both discs are similar to vinyl records. Just don’t throw them at the zombies in your yard.

As for special features, much of the previously released bonus content is included in this release, alongside a new feature, Shaun of the Dead: 20 Bloody Years. This is a review of the film with Wright, Pegg and Frost as they reflect on the film and its story. Here is the full list of bonus content:

  • Feature commentary tracks

The Cornetto Trilogy
The Cornetto Trilogy

Shaun of the Dead was just the first of three films in Wright, Pegg and Frost’s great Cornetto trilogy. If you want to watch all three films in 4K, which vary greatly in genre, they’re all bundled together in one convenient box.

The second film in the trilogy, Hot Fuzz, is a murderous mix of action and crime set in a small British village, and was followed a few years later by The World’s End, an epic pub crawl filled with alien invaders and robot doppelgangers.

The price is currently $27 (was $60) and includes the films on 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray and digital. There’s also a standard Blu-ray version for $17.
