Israel Defense Forces yesterday confirmed the death of senior Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in a military operation in the northern Gaza Strip. The military operation eliminated two more Hamas terrorists as part of the operation.

Footage and images released today show Israeli troops carrying out intelligence-led raids, encountering terrorists and eliminating dozens of them in hand-to-hand combat and by piloting IAF aircraft.

IDF operation that killed Yahya Sinwar

According to an IDF statement, troops from the 828th Brigade operating in the Tel al-Sultan area of ​​Rafah this week identified several suspects in the area.

The troops then closely monitored the region and encountered terrorists who shot and threw grenades at them. The soldiers returned fire, hitting the terrorists who tried to escape and dispersed into two adjacent buildings in the area.

Scans by troops the next morning identified the body of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

The operation took several months

According to Israel, the operation that killed Yahya Sinwar followed several months of reconnaissance and preparatory work in which the IDF, in collaboration with the ISA and under the leadership of the 162nd Division, fought Hamas’s Rafah Brigade and the Tel al Battalion -Sultan operated and eliminated hundreds of terrorists.

These operations trapped Sinwar, prevented his escape, and prepared the ground for his elimination.

Hamas confirms killing of Yahya Sinwar

Later today, Hamas confirmed that its leader Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza and reiterated its stance that Israeli hostages kidnapped a year ago will not be released until there is a ceasefire in Gaza Israeli troops withdraw.

Khalil al-Hayya, Sinwar’s Qatar-based deputy and Hamas’s representative in several rounds of ceasefire negotiations, said the former Hamas leader died “fighting the occupying army until the last moment of his life.” Hamas would not return any of the hostages, he said, “until the end of the aggression against Gaza and the withdrawal from Gaza.”
