A Grange Hospital worker lied to a woman in order to sexually abuse her, a court has been told

A trainee health worker lied to a patient about her urine levels before allegedly sexually abusing her, a court has heard.

Ieuan Crump, 26, from Gilfach, Caerphilly County, is alleged to have inappropriately touched two patients at the Grange Hospital in Cwmbran, Torfaen, in August 2021.

Police were contacted as soon as the woman told another nurse about the alleged assaults after a second incident occurred, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

Mr. Crump denied nine charges of sexual assault, including three charges of assault by penetration.

The woman gave her statement via video link and said she neither saw nor knew the other alleged victim at the station.

Defense lawyer Andrew Davies asked the woman about a dose of morphine she had been given before Mr Crump first examined her on August 13 and whether it had made her “dizzy or confused”.

“A little tired,” she said, but added that it didn’t make her sleepy.

The woman said Mr. Crump performed bladder scans on her twice, touching her vagina both times.

The second time, she said he also touched her butt and breasts inappropriately after she asked if there was a chance she was pregnant.

The first bladder scan was recorded in the patient’s notes by Mr Crump at 1:25pm BST that day.

But the woman said another nurse later told her that Mr. Crump had “lied” on those notes and noted a higher urine level than was actually the case.

After the second alleged incident of inappropriate touching, the woman had a conversation with the same nurse.

“We started talking about what he did, the bladder scans, and that’s when we talked about it,” the woman said.

“As soon as I mentioned it to the nurses, they called the police,” she said.

She added that the nurse replied to her: “If he did that to my children, I would hunt him down.”

Mr. Crump denies the allegations and the trial continues.
