A man was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the stabbing at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, prosecutors said

MANHATTAN, NY – Michael McCloskey, 42, was sentenced to 13 years in state prison for the unprovoked stabbing of a 65-year-old carpenter at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in April, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced Thursday . McCloskey pleaded guilty in September to one count of attempted second-degree murder.

The attack occurred on April 22, 2024 at around 5:40 a.m. while the victim was waiting for a co-worker on the way to work. McCloskey approached the man from behind and, without warning, stabbed him nine times in the throat, neck, back and arm. The victim suffered multiple cuts and stab wounds, requiring 47 stitches and an overnight stay in Bellevue Hospital.

Port Authority Police Department officers patrolling nearby heard the victim’s screams and quickly intervened, arresting McCloskey at the scene while he still held the knife.

“Michael McCloskey will serve a serious prison sentence for stabbing a man who was out walking in the early morning hours,” District Attorney Bragg said in a statement. “Although the victim has physically healed, he is still suffering from the effects of this attack.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sidney Balman III with assistance from several members of Trial Bureau 60 and the Port Authority Police Department.
