Love Reddy Review: Same old boring romantic drama

Love Reddy Review: Same old boring romantic drama

Love Reddy is set in the small town of Rayalaseema and is about Narayana Reddy (Anjan Ramachandra), who is 30 years old but has not tied the knot yet. Reddy is so adamant that he will not marry anyone just for the sake of marriage. One fine day he falls in love with Divya (Srvanani Reddy). At first she ignores him, but after Arun moves in, things change. Who is this Arun? How did he change history? and did Love Reddy find his lover in the end? That shapes the story.

Smaran Reddy has directed Love Reddy and he chooses a routine romantic drama and tells it in a very normal way. The main character is called Love Reddy in his village because he falls head over heels in love with the heroine. This sums up the entire first half of the film. The romantic aspect, where the hero pursues the heroine like there is no tomorrow, is portrayed in a very routine manner.

The length of the first half is a bit long and it will make you restless if you don’t understand when the real twist in the story comes. It’s only in the pre-break that things take a sharp turn and things start to make sense. It is only in the second half that Love Reddy starts to make sense.

A few twists and turns that are unleashed are quite good and have been handled quite well by the director. These twists are well written and make the proceedings interesting. But as soon as these come to light, the film becomes predictable and routine again for the viewer.

The director adds a few social themes to ‘Love Reddy’ and handles them quite well. After a point, the love story is told amidst social issues that are nothing new, although they hold your attention. The script is one of the biggest villains as the film doesn’t hold your attention much.

Although the setting is decent, the tension isn’t built up to much. In terms of performances, Anjan Ramachandra as Love Reddy is very good. The way he displays his emotions in tense situations in the second half is quite good for a young actor who is new to Telugu cinema.

Shravani Reddy also got a key role and was good. Even though she looks rustic in the beginning, she does well towards the end of the film and shocks us with her emotional performance. NT Ramaswamy was also seen in a key role and does what is required in the narrative. The background music of the film is quite good and enhances the proceedings well.

The score composed during the tense moments is pretty cool. The camera work that shows the small town setup is neat. The editing isn’t that great as Love Reddy could have been crisper in the first half. The design of the action episodes is also not that good.

In a way, director Smaran has written a routine theme and added some surprising twists. He got good performances out of his cast, but his script leaves a lot to be desired. He doesn’t force you to sit with his narratives, leaving Love Reddy jaded in many areas.

On the whole, “Love Reddy” is a routine romantic drama in which only a few moments click. The rest of the procedure is ordinary and has nothing new to offer.
