Anthony Joshua pays for his fellow boxer’s funeral after a tragic accident

Heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua stepped in to cover the funeral costs of Vinny Mitchell, a former professional boxer who tragically died in a motorcycle accident in 2019, aged just 31.

Vinny, the younger brother of former world title contender Kevin Mitchell, has left his family heartbroken by his sudden death. Kevin recently spoke about Joshua’s incredible kindness during this difficult time, calling it “unbelievable.”

Despite his busy schedule and the immense pressure of being a top athlete, Joshua personally reached out to Kevin’s family and not only offered his emotional support, but also covered the funeral costs.

Kevin, who held the British super featherweight and Commonwealth titles, shared how much the gesture meant to his family.

Speaking to podcast host Josh Jamesy, he said: “He put so much pressure on him, Josh, and I want to tell you something. “I’ve never said this to anyone on the podcast, but he paid for my brother’s funeral. “

Asked if Joshua knew him or his brother, Mitchell said: “He knew both of us. He knew my brother, he knew me, he knew my mother.”

“He called me when we were in the chapel of rest in Dagenham East and said: ‘Kev, how are you?’ You’re a strong guy, aren’t you?”

“I said, ‘You must be Josh, his partner.’ Then he asked, ‘Is your mother there? Can I please speak to her?’”

“As we sit at the table grieving – bad feelings and we’re all about to get going – and we’re all worried about burying my brother, how are we going to get money, we’ve got mortgages to pay but no one’s working.” The bills still have to be paid, so we are all aggressive and short-tempered, emotions go up and down.”

“I was so stressed, I was under a lot of pressure and he said, ‘Alice, do you mind if I get it?’ She said, “What do you mean?” My mother didn’t quite hear him. And he said, ‘I’ll pay for his funeral, Alice, if you don’t mind,’ and he paid for it.”
