Man killed in moped crash in Burke County

A Burke County man was killed in a moped accident. The deceased is 57-year-old Daniel Wayne Salmons of Connelly Springs.

On Thursday (October 17) at approximately 5:35 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to US 70 near Lockee Street in Burke County. A 2023 BMW

The driver of the moped, Daniel Wayne Salmons, was thrown from the moped and died from his injuries at the scene. The driver of the BMW, a 20-year-old Connelly Springs resident, was not injured.

The initial investigation determined that impairment did not contribute to the accident. After the ongoing investigation has been completed and consultation with the public prosecutor’s office, charges are still pending. US 70 was closed in the area for approximately two hours while the scene was investigated.
