Cleveland Heights police are dealing with a series of car thefts and reports of car damage over a three-day period

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio – Car thieves have been on the rampage the last few nights, stealing from cars, stealing from them and causing extensive damage.

Police received reports of five car thefts and several reports of damage to parked cars over a three-day period.

The thefts included:

– A woman’s Toyota Camry was reported stolen at 5:20 a.m. Oct. 10 from an apartment property on Overlook Road.

– The 2002 Toyota Camry was reported stolen at 9:20 a.m. Oct. 11 from a parking lot at 2600 Mayfield Road.

– The 2004 Toyota Camry was reported stolen at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 11 from a parking lot at Cedar and Norfolk streets.

– On Oct. 11 at 11:10 a.m., a woman reported that her 2006 Toyota Camry was stolen from a parking lot at 2708 Mayfield Road.

– On Oct. 11 at 5:30 p.m., a woman reported the theft of her 2000 Jeep Cherokee from a parking lot on Hampshire Road.

As for the damage, officers were dispatched at 7:05 a.m. Oct. 12 to the parking lot at 2300 Overlook Road, where a woman reported seeing at least 12 cars parked with windows smashed. Officers confirmed the report and attempted to contact the owners of the vehicles to determine what may have been stolen from each vehicle.

Meanwhile, at 9:10 a.m. Oct. 12, a woman reported that the windows of her 2021 Volvo were smashed while it was parked in an apartment lot at 2725 Hampshire Road.

A man whose Nissan vehicle was also parked in the Hampshire car park reported similar damage to his car.

Police obtained surveillance video that showed four suspects entering the parking lot just before 4 a.m. The suspects, who were in the parking lot for about three minutes, looked into several parked vehicles and two of them were seen getting into the Volvo and the Nissan.

At the Hampshire Road property, police saw three vehicles broken into at the adjacent property at 2704 Mayfield Road: a 2015 Cadillac four-door sedan, a 2015 Audi four-door sedan and a 2021 Ford Escort.

At 9:20 a.m., also on October 12, a man reported that someone had broken the passenger window of his 2018 Chevrolet Cruze while it was parked in the parking lot at 2463 Overlook Road. There, officers saw five more damaged vehicles.

And prior to these incidents, officers were called to city Lot No. 9 on Cedar Road at 10 a.m. Oct. 10 where a woman reported that someone had broken the driver’s side rear window of her 2007 Dodge Durango and ripped off the steering column.

If possible, the officers collected DNA evidence and investigated.
