Officials said the incident occurred at Wendy’s in Nanakuli when Cheney was asked to stop moving furniture in the restaurant.

An argument broke out when Cheney called Otto a derogatory name and the argument was taken outside.

Court documents said Otto then punched Cheney, who then turned and stabbed Otto and a Wendy’s manager.

Otto was then taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries. The second victim was treated and released.

“This was a monstrous crime that left a young man dead. We will do everything we can to protect the public by securing convictions in this case. As a multiple offender, this defendant would face an extended sentence, which would mean life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

Steve Alm, prosecutor

Both attempted murder and murder “are punishable by life in prison without the possibility of parole.”

Cheney is reportedly being held without bail at OCCC and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
