Matt Bushthe No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 MLB Draft, was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of an accident while intoxicated.

Bush, 38, was taken into custody in Arlington, Texas, on Friday, Oct. 3, after causing a multi-car accident and attempting to escape police on foot, Arlington police said in a statement with Us weekly.

Authorities initially tried to stop Bush after he was seen “driving erratically” in his Lincoln Aviator on Friday evening. Police allege Bush managed to evade them by speeding over them.

Minutes later, Bush allegedly ran a red light and caused a pileup in the middle of an intersection. According to police, Bush tried to escape, but passersby at the scene detained him before authorities showed up.

Bush was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where he showed signs of intoxication. After refusing to take a sobriety test, Bush was arrested and charged with one count of DUI, one count of accident causing injury and one count of eluding.

Us weekly reached out to a Bush representative and did not immediately receive a response.

Bush was drafted No. 1 overall by the San Diego Padres in 2004 and had to deal with numerous off-field issues before his professional career began.

In March 2012, Bush was arrested while playing in the minor leagues after hitting a motorcyclist over the head with his SUV.

Bush was charged with two counts of drunk driving causing property damage, one count of driving under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury, one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing injury, one count of driving with a revoked license and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage. He was ultimately sentenced to 51 months in prison.

After finally making his MLB debut with the Texas Rangers in 2016, Bush played a total of 217 games for the Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers, who traded for Bush in August 2022.

Bush appeared in twelve games for the Brewers during the 2023 season and struggled with a 9.58 ERA. He was released by the team in July 2023. Bush signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers organization after his release from Milwaukee, but never returned to the MLB.
