A man is in critical condition after an armed attack Thursday evening in Montreal’s Mercier neighborhood.

According to Montreal police spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant, a 911 call reported an armed attack in Bellerive Park on Notre-Dame St. near St. Donat St. around 8:10 p.m.

Rescue workers discovered three victims on site. A 47-year-old man and a 31-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries. However, the third victim, a 39-year-old man, suffered serious injuries to his upper body from an object and had to be taken to hospital, where his condition was listed as critical.

Constable Brabant said that, according to initial information from various witnesses, an argument between several people escalated in the park. During the conflict, three men were allegedly attacked by another man who allegedly used a blunt object.

The suspect then allegedly drove off in a vehicle in a direction that the SPVM said was initially “incomprehensible.”

A security perimeter was set up around Bellerive Park and investigators were sent to the scene to analyze the scene and meet with witnesses to the incident to understand the circumstances of this attack. The dog team was also called in.

The SPVM said there were no arrests Thursday evening. An investigation has been launched.
