Sean Payton, who dominates the Saints, could fire his replacement

For the first time ever, Sean Payton was the guest coach at a game in New Orleans. And upon his return to New Orleans, Payton not only crashed Drew Brees’ Saints Hall of Fame ceremony, but also embarrassed his old organization with a dominant shot by the Denver Broncos.

And he might have put the final nail in the proverbial coffin of his old pal Dennis Allen.

Allen, who has been head coach of the New Orleans Saints since the resignation of Sean Payton, faced loud boos from loyal Saints fans who showed up to Thursday night’s game and also faced some calls for him to be fired.

The Saints had a whopping 16 missed tackles in their Week 6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The numbers don’t indicate how many missed tackles they missed against the Denver Broncos, but the Broncos recorded over 200 rushing yards against the Saints’ defense.

Not only did the Broncos have over 200 rushing yards as a team, but they also had four different players average over five yards per carry and in the fourth quarter they had over seven yards per carry as a team.

The Saints defense has given up tons of yards and points in recent weeks, and with a 2-5 record following this loss to Sean Payton and the Broncos, it’s very possible that Dennis Allen is on his way out of town. It can never be guaranteed that a head coach will be fired during the season, but despite all the injuries the Saints have suffered, this team’s performance has been unacceptable as they have put up a whopping 91 points through the first two weeks of the season.

Now they’ve lost five games in a row, and one of the strangest things we saw in that game was Allen trying to call some timeouts before the end of the first half and after he called his third and final timeout , he had his quarterback get on his knees. It was just an odd sequence and perhaps a sign that some deeper issues were afoot.

It was just a purely dominant performance from the Broncos from start to finish of this game. Even though they had to settle for a few field goals, they essentially lived on the Saints’ side and had drive after drive that put them in the hunt for points.

Even after the Saints finally got on the field late in the first half, the Broncos were able to put together a nice two-minute drive and get into field goal range to answer right away.

The Saints are now 18-23 under Dennis Allen since he took over in 2022. They look like a squad that could be on the verge of a rebuild, and entering the head coach market could make sense for them. We’ve already seen the Denver Broncos be the Grim Reaper for the New York Jets and Robert Saleh, and perhaps the Grim Reaper is next for Dennis Allen.
