YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. – A collision between a car and a semi-truck on State Route 24 sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries. The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. at milepost 21, about 19 miles east of Moxee.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Sarah Clasen: “A tractor-trailer and trailer was stopped on Highway 24 westbound near milepost 21, experienced some mechanical issues and ended up on the side of the road.”

“Then a vehicle came up behind them, also heading west, and crashed into the rear of the trailer,” Clasen added.

The driver of the car, a 61-year-old man from Yakima, was driving a 2020 Nissan Armada when he collided with the trailer. He suffered broken bones and was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, where he is believed to be in stable condition.

The 18-year-old driver of the semi-truck from Outlook was not injured in the incident. The Washington State Patrol confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
