Man with stolen truck tries to escape from Colorado Springs police

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – On Wednesday evening, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s downtown team was near North Chestnut Street and Fillmore Avenue when they said they found a stolen truck.

According to police, there were a man and a woman in the stolen truck. The man, Dante Cedillo, attempted to run away from officers at high speed but struck a tree stump. The stolen truck was then immobile.

When he realized the truck wasn’t drivable, he tried to run away on foot, leaving the woman in the truck, according to police.

Police said they then attempted to use nonlethal force against Cedillo, but that failed to stop him. The officers then used a Taser and took him into custody.

Police said he was taken to a hospital for injuries sustained from non-fatal force and from hitting a retaining wall as he fled officers.

The woman was identified and released. Police said Cedillo was arrested for motor vehicle theft.
