An Aspen woman tries to kidnap a child at a restaurant, hitting the staff in the process

Editor’s Note: Unless individuals hold positions of public trust, or there is an imminent threat of harm to the public (e.g., an active shooter), or there is an exceptional circumstance, arrested/charged suspects will not be named/identified until a conviction or there is a criminal case. A plea bargain is accepted. The suspect is mentioned here because of her multiple kidnapping attempts in the past and her recent posting of bail.

An Aspen resident has been charged with kidnapping, harassment and stalking after allegedly attempting to kidnap several minors.

According to an affidavit, Aspen police units responded to an incident at the French Alpine Bistro at 400 E. Hopkins Ave. on Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.

The affidavit states that Adria Dawn Tomlinson, 43, “followed a man and his children into the restaurant. Once inside, she tried to kidnap the man’s son.”

According to the affidavit, the suspect had previously attempted to kidnap this man’s child four times.

Restaurant staff attempted to separate the suspect from the child when the suspect struck the employees. Police soon arrived at the restaurant and found the suspect yelling at everyone.

Police escorted the Tomlinson outside and away from the restaurant, where she refused to cooperate.

“Tomlinson followed the man’s children to the bus stop, looked into the child’s windows and said, ‘My angel, my angel,'” the affidavit states.

The affidavit also states that all of the man’s children are extremely afraid of the suspect, to the point that they become frightened when they hear noises in their home.

A witness at the scene of the recent incident said: “I saw the woman grab the child and try to remove him from the bar stool.”

The affidavit states that Tomlinson was handcuffed due to her erratic behavior at the scene. After police spoke to all witnesses, she was arrested and taken to prison.

The suspects’ bond was set at $5,000 and their next court date is scheduled for Oct. 21 at the Pitkin County Courthouse. According to the Pitkin County Jail, Tomlinson posted bail on Tuesday.
