Suspected subway burglar pleads not guilty

A 46-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a woman on a Studio City-area subway train pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder and robbery charges.

Elliott Tramel Nowden is scheduled to return to court in downtown Los Angeles on Jan. 24. A date is then set for a hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to stand trial on first-degree murder and robbery charges. The murder charge includes an allegation of murder during a robbery under special circumstances.

According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Nowden faces a possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged.
