Animal shelter takes care of puppies that were left in a box outside the police station

Seven puppies left on the steps of a Pennsylvania police station were taken to the station after being found by an outgoing officer who was heading out for the night.

The puppies, which were 10-12 days old, were left in a milk crate overnight on Friday. The little dogs were still relying on their mother’s milk and needed urgent support, police told WHP.

Now East Pennsboro Township police are investigating the man who left the puppies behind, who has been named “Chris.”

The puppies’ “dependent age” led police to seek assistance from the Harrisburg Humane Society, which provided standard veterinary care to keep them in stable condition.

The organization then transferred the puppies to Davis Dog Farm, a rescue center in Grantsville.

Every situation is different. “I don’t think you’re a bad person just because you have to give up an animal,” said Janine Guido, founder and president of Speranza, a nonprofit animal shelter based in Mechanicsburg. “You’re much happier being there while you’re working than in a loud, stressful kennel situation

Police Detective Anthony Fiore is asking the public for information about the man by calling 717-732-3633.
