5.Pennsylvania is the fifth-highest ranked state for serial killers. There have been five known serial killers to plague the state of Pennsylvania, the most notorious being “House of Horrors” killer Gary Heidnik. Heidnik murdered two women in his North Philadelphia home, where he kept six victims in chains and gave them electric shocks between 1986 and 1987.

4.Indiana Next up are 6 well-known serial killers. One of the most notorious, William Clyde Gibson, went on a killing spree for a decade before he was finally caught.

3.Ohio and Illinois each have seven known serial killers. Ohio produced perhaps one of the world’s most notorious serial killers: Jeffrey Dahmer.

2. Illinois – Associated with Ohio – was the home of John Wayne Gacy, an amateur clown who was convicted of luring and strangling 33 men and boys to his home in the Chicago suburb of Norridge.

1. New York is ranked No. 1 and tops the list of 18 registered serial killers, including the infamous “Son of Sam” killer. David Berkowitz killed six people in New York state in the late 1970s.
