The Corpus Christi Police Department is committed to public safety

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) continued to improve public safety with significant improvements and expansions in fiscal year 2024. The department experienced important equipment improvements and staffing increases to better serve the community.

Significant equipment investments:

  • $150,000 for building maintenance improvements
  • Generator at Flour Bluff substation $150,000
  • $100,000 for forensic lab equipment
  • Expanded drone program to 26 drones, $50,000
  • A mental support dog has been added to the K9 unit
  • Bear Kat – SWAT armored vehicle
  • Purchase of 36 police vehicles

Increase in staff:

  • Over the past four years, 55 police officer positions have been added, bringing the total number of unified police forces to 501
  • The 83rdapprox The Corpus Christi Police Academy graduated 27 cadets in May 2024.
  • The 84thTh The Corpus Christi Police Academy began July 15, 2024 with 32 cadets.
  • The 85Th The Corpus Christi Police Academy will begin in July 2025 for 25 cadets.

Other police facilities:

  • New police training academy

  • The design phase of the Far South and Northwest substations has been completed.

The Corpus Christi Police Academy’s new ribbon cutting is scheduled for Nov. 7. It is the first purpose-built police academy for the city of Corpus Christi and quadruples the size of the current academy. The new academy will include an outdoor track, fitness center, defensive tactics area, men’s and women’s locker rooms, an auditorium and two classrooms to provide regional training opportunities.
