Trigger Warning: This article contains mentions of death and drug abuse.

Since Liam Payne’s tragic death on Wednesday, October 16, new pictures have surfaced online from his room on the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The photos, confirmed by Argentina’s largest newspaper La Nacion, reportedly show a broken television, half-empty glasses, a wine glass with white energy spread over it and silver foil scattered around the room.

According to multiple sources and phone logs, Payne was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he fell from the balcony. A source close to the investigation told the Argentine news agency that the One Direction alum’s body was found on the floor, along with “a bottle of whiskey, a lighter and a cell phone.”

Police have reportedly found packets of the late singer’s medications, including clonazepam, energy drinks and other over-the-counter medications. Following the investigation, Argentine officials vowed to hunt down the person who gave Payne the illegal drugs without a prescription.

Payne has suffered from substance abuse throughout his life and has even spoken publicly about it and advocated for mental health. In 2021, the Strip That Down singer opened up about his alcohol addiction and suicidal thoughts at the height of his drug abuse during his appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast.

“I was worried about how far down I would go. Where is the lowest point for me?” he said at the time. “And you would never have seen it. I’m very good at hiding it. No one would have ever seen it,” Payne added. When he fell from the third-floor balcony, the lower part of the singer’s skull fractured, paramedics reported.

According to Alberto Crescenti, head of SAME, Buenos Aires’ public emergency services system, the medical team found Payne dead when they arrived at the scene.

“From what the team saw, there appeared to be a fractured skull and extremely serious injuries which led to his immediate death,” he told local news channel TN. They tried their best to revive him, but his injuries were “incompatible” with life.
