Ten Bucks Theater Company Presents “Scary Stories”

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Ten Bucks Theater Company invites you to gather your courage for their newest show.

Their “Scary Stories” production features stories, poems and scenes from plays to get you in the Halloween spirit.

“We have lots of different stories and poems. We have Lovecraft, we have Edgar Allen Poe, we have Washington Irving and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. We have some smaller poems by Lovecraft and Emily Bronte. So it’s a nice mix I think of Halloween and scarier things. And then, just like in the fall,” said co-director Natalie Lisnet.

The immersive production lasts approximately one and a half hours.

Ten Bucks describes the show as having an eerie atmosphere that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

“Part of it is the actors memorizing the poems, memorizing some of the stories and acting them out overall. And then we have a few podiums here where some people read and part of it is then performed on stage. The way I think about it is like hearing a story and then imagining it in your head. That’s kind of what’s projected onto the stage,” Lisnet said.

Although there are some spooky stories here, the production is not considered overly scary.

“I would say this is suitable for everyone. I don’t think it will be too scary. We’re doing “Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe, which, you know, gets a little dark, but not so much that it feels like people are jumping out at you and scaring you. So you don’t have to worry about that,” Lisnet said.

The performance begins on the evening of October 17th. For a full list of performances and times, visit the Ten Bucks Theater Company Facebook page here.
