Former British student convicted of assault on campus that was caught on video

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A former University of Kentucky student has been sentenced in connection with an attack on campus.

Sophia Rosing pleaded guilty in August.

The incident occurred in November 2022. A video shows Rosing in a dorm punching a Black student worker and shouting racial slurs at him.

A grand jury had previously indicted her on six counts, including assault and public intoxication. As part of a plea agreement, the third-degree assault charge against her was changed to fourth-degree assault. She pleaded guilty to the other charges.

On Thursday, Rosing was sentenced to 12 months in prison, 100 hours of community service and a $25 fine.

The University of Kentucky permanently banned her from campus following the incident.
