US top leaders won’t block EPA rules banning coal and gas power

In August, about two dozen states asked the U.S. Supreme Court to temporarily block new EPA rules that would phase out all coal-fired power plants and prevent the construction of most (if not all) new gas-fired power plants (see States). Urges US Supreme Court to urgently block EPA methane regulation. The EPA wants to force the US oil and gas industry to reduce methane emissions by using budget-busting new technologies and burdensome (frequent) inspections (see Bidenistas Unleash Hellscape of US Methane Regs at COP28). Yesterday, the Supremes refused to invoke a temporary block while a lawsuit is heard in the lower US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
