Tentative agreement increases wages for child care providers in New York

CITYWIDE – THE CITY AND UNION LOCAL announced a tentative contract agreement Wednesday for thousands of child care providers, including an increase of approximately 16% to $18 per hour beginning in October 2024. The agreement was reached between DC 37 and the Day Care Council of New York and applies to employees of dozens of nonprofit child care organizations that partner with NYC DOE Close a deal. The agreement also provides for a $2,000 ratification bonus, $1,000 for health insurance and additional payments for employees working on summer, extended day and annual programs. Longevity-based payments, which have been suspended for over a decade, are scheduled to resume effective October 1, 2024.

“Our early childhood education providers are a cornerstone of our school system,” said recently appointed Schools Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos. “The essential work they do lays the foundation for our youngest children to develop a lifelong love of learning.”
