Man charged after altercation, shot at woman fleeing in car: PD

NEW HAVEN, CT – Late Wednesday afternoon, police officers were called to Dunkin’ Donuts at Whalley Avenue and Anthony Street for reports of a shooting. When they got there and didn’t find a victim, they spoke to witnesses who reported that there was an “altercation” between a man and a woman and when she tried to escape in a car, the 20-year-old man gave up the vehicle was shot, police said.

Police said the man, Marcus Smith of New Haven, fled the scene.

Shortly thereafter, an “assault victim” arrived at Milford police and was taken to the hospital, police said. She wasn’t shot, but suffered injuries from the “altercation” in the New Haven cafe.

Police determined their vehicle had been struck by a bullet and compared the handgun to a long magazine that police later found at Smith’s home when they went armed with a search warrant and arrested him, according to a post on ” X” emerges.

Smith was charged with seven counts of risk of injury to a minor person, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree menacing, attempted first-degree assault, third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and four counts of firearm use. And the police said there was already an arrest warrant against him for assault and breach of the peace.

Smith was held on $800,000 bail and is due in court on Friday.
