Parents allege sexual assault at Isha Foundation in Coimbatore

The parents of a minor boy who was allegedly sexually abused by a student of Isha Foundation in Coimbatore have spoken outthe concernsabout the institution. The mother said she volunteered with the foundation as a political science teacher for two years until June 2024 to learn more and collect evidence about the abuses on the ground.

Narender and Yamini (names changed), parents of a boy who was allegedly sexually abused by another student during his school days at the foundation, spoke at a media meet at Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday (October 17, 2024). “We learned this during the COVID-19 lockdown. I cleaned the house and found notes from my son in which he recounted the attack and wrote that he was suicidal. Many of our emails to the foundation were answered with WhatsApp calls, probably in an attempt not to leave any digital traces. We were told that the other boy “comes from an elite family,” Ms. Yamini said.

Speaking about her experiences and learnings, Ms Yamini said she was both a “victim and a witness”. “Initially, we did not go to the police as we gave the place the benefit of the doubt and valued Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev. However, when I saw that there were reports of other cases of sexual assault, missing children and poor management and schooling even after hundreds of rupees were collected in fees, I decided to speak up,” she said.

Another mother of a seven-year-old girl, who wished to remain anonymous, alleged that her daughter was also sexually abused at the foundation in Coimbatore. Addressing the mediaOver a WhatsApp call from Tamil Nadu, she said, “We believed that Jaggi Baba was a God and there were no doubts about him.” But I am among the many parents whose child was raped several times by the teachers at Isha Home School in Coimbatore became. She even tried to take her own life. The PoCSO case has now reached the Supreme Court and we are ready to expose it. Our children are not safe at Isha Foundation. It’s time to expose the cult,” the woman said.

Ms. Yamini and her husband claimed that students had to wake up at 3 a.m. and take a cold water shower to meditate topless. “The girls don’t feel comfortable with it. They have such long days and rarely get any rest,” they said. They claimed that they had evidence of an email chain correspondence between two faculty members who wrote to Jaggi Vasudev about this issue and the practice that should be stopped. “We will contact the police with all evidence and hope that justice is served,” they concluded.
