5, including 2 toddlers, died in road accident in Mathura – The Week

Mathura (UP), Oct 17 (PTI) Five people from Bihar, including two little girls, were killed and three others injured after a pickup truck they were traveling in met with an accident here, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday near Nagaria Satbisa on Kosi Shergarh road under Kosi Kalan police station limits, they added.
The deceased have been identified as Gauri Devi (35), her daughter Komal (2), Kunti Devi (28), her daughter Priyanka (2) and Kajal (17), according to police.
The injured – Kumari Jira (19), Kumari Mana (21) and Gagan (3) – were taken to the community health center in Kosi Kalan from where they were shifted to the district hospital after their condition worsened.
“The pickup truck carrying workers crashed into a utility pole after one of its power cables snapped. In panic to escape, the workers jumped from the vehicle,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shailesh Kumar Pandey.
“The driver tried to reverse the pickup truck, which resulted in many injuries. Tragically, all the victims were run over by the vehicle, killing five people and injuring three others,” Pandey added.
The victims hailed from Gaya district of Bihar and were on their way to Hodal in Palwal district of Haryana to work in a brick kiln. They came to Aligarh by train and then boarded the pickup truck to Palwal.
The bodies have been sent for autopsy, police said.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath acknowledged the incident and expressed condolences to the bereaved families, an official statement said.
Adityanath also directed the officials concerned to ensure proper treatment of the injured as he wished for a speedy recovery, it said.
