Liam Payne’s last video before his tragic death shows him in Argentina

Liam Payne filmed himself having a late breakfast at an Argentine estate in a series of videos and photos shared shortly before his tragic fall on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old musician died after falling from the third floor into the courtyard of the CasaSur hotel in the Argentine capital’s fashionable Palermo district, resulting in “extremely serious injuries.” According to local authorities, medics confirmed his death at the scene.

Argentine media reported that Payne was in Buenos Aires to attend the concert of his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan.

Hours earlier, Payne had posted a video clip on the social media platform Snapchat that showed him sitting at a dinner table with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy.

The footage, captioned “Beautiful day in Argentina,” shows Payne playfully chastising Cassidy for putting her hat on the table, before turning the camera to show the green vista behind him.

“It’s a beautiful day here in Argentina,” he told viewers before turning the camera back to what he described as the “breakfast table.”

“I’m eating an orange,” Cassidy said from her seat at the other end of the table.

“I’m just enjoying coffee and breakfast even though it’s only 1 p.m.,” Payne added.

Off-screen, Cassidy chimed in: “Literally, we sleep until at least 12 every day. We are such losers.”

After briefly considering his partner’s statement, Payne said “No” with a serious expression before flashing a smile at the camera.

Other uploads he shared on Snapchat hours before his death included a mirror selfie showing him shirtless next to Cassidy in a bikini.

Although the posts were shared on Wednesday, it appears they were filmed days earlier, as TMZ reported that Cassidy left Argentina on October 14 and Payne checked into the CasaSur Palermo Hotel alone. The website also reported that the couple arrived in the country on September 30.

Authorities were first alerted at 5:04 p.m. by a 911 call from the hotel manager reporting that a man was behaving aggressively and may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Personnel from Police Station 14B went to the hotel along with a team from the Emergency Medical Attention System (SAME), who found Payne’s body in the yard.

SAME paramedics confirmed Payne’s death shortly after arriving at 5:11 p.m. The head of SAME, Alberto Crescenti, later gave details in a television interview, saying that Payne fell from a height of about 13 or 14 meters (about 43 to 46 feet).

“We were notified via 911 about a person in the courtyard of the CasaSur Hotel,” Crescenti said. “When our team arrived, the man had already died. Unfortunately his injuries were fatal and there was no possibility of resuscitation.”

A prosecutor and local authorities, with the support of city police, are investigating the cause of the singer’s death.

Pablo Policicchio, a spokesman for the Buenos Aires city security department, told The Associated Press in a statement that Payne “threw himself from the balcony of his room.”

Policicchio also said police were dispatched to the hotel to respond to a call about an “aggressive male who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

Payne became famous as part of the globally successful boy band One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. The group was formed on the British talent show The X Factor in 2010.

After the chart-topping band went on hiatus in 2016, Payne pursued a solo career with songs like “Strip That Down” and “Bedroom Floor” and released works earlier this year.

Payne had a seven-year-old son, Bear Gray Payne, from his previous relationship with singer Cheryl, known as Cheryl Cole during her time in the band Girls Aloud. Payne is also survived by his parents and two older sisters.
