Allen Gonzalez, 29, of Homer was sentenced Oct. 9 to 29 years in prison for sexual assault.

Gonzalez was convicted by a Homer jury on June 14 of two counts of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault, one count of attempted second-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree sexual assault. one count of first-degree witness tampering and one count of unlawful contact.

According to an Oct. 10 news release from the Alaska Department of Law, Supreme Court Justice Bride Seifert ordered a total sentence of 53 years for Gonzalez, with an active sentence of 29 years and two days and the remaining time. approx. 24 years, suspended. After his release from prison, Gonzalez will be sentenced to 15 years probation and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Julie L. Matucheski with assistance from paralegals Anna LaRoche and Minna Bogard, the release said. The case was investigated by the Homer Police Department. The key officers involved in the investigation were Officer Morgan Tracy and Sgt. Jessica Poling. Lindsey Collins of South Peninsula Haven House provided legal assistance to the victim throughout the trial and sentencing.

According to the press release, at the sentencing the victim made a “powerful” statement to the court that although she continues to face the impact and psychological impact of what the defendant did to her every day, she wanted the court and the defendant to know that he hadn’t broken her and that she would continue to rebuild her life.
